Deepgram acquires Daily to expand open-source infrastructure for voice AI agents

Deepgram is acquiring Daily, the company behind open-source voice and video framework Pipecat, in an undisclosed deal and says Pipecat will remain open source. The acquisition gives Deepgram access to infrastructure that connects speech recognition, language models and speech synthesis while reducing latency. The companies are also launching an open protocol for voice-agent context. The deal reflects consolidation in a fast-growing infrastructure market, but the strategic case and open-source benefits remain largely based on statements from the companies’ executives.
