DeepSeek open-sources the inference stack behind its V4.1-Flash service

AlphaSignal

DeepSeek has released DeepInfer, the inference framework it says powers DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash, alongside deepseek-recipe, a protocol layer for rendering requests and parsing responses. The Apache- and MIT-licensed components expose optimized kernels, mixture-of-experts routing, speculative decoding, scheduling and deterministic inference to self-hosters. They support NVIDIA SM100 GPUs and Huawei Ascend 950 NPUs, but operators must still provide KV-cache management, service transport, load balancing and other production infrastructure.

Editorial summary · Publisher article

What matters

  • DeepInfer is built on vLLM-derived foundations and includes DeepSeek-specific kernels and decoding paths.
  • deepseek-recipe handles Chat Completions, Messages and Responses formats, reasoning extraction and tool calls.
  • The initial release supports offline inference for DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash rather than a complete managed endpoint.

What self-hosters still need

The release supplies model execution and request semantics, but deployment teams remain responsible for caching, prefill/decode coordination, replica balancing, authentication, quotas, retries and observability.

Context & caveats

  • Hardware support is narrow, and the reported benchmark configuration uses four GPUs for prefill and 64 for decoding.
Why this made the edition

The packet provides substantial technical detail about DeepSeek’s open-source inference engine and API-compatibility layer, including supported hardware, deployment boundaries and operational responsibilities.
