US measles cases reach 4,410 as Pennsylvania outbreak expands

Al Jazeera

The CDC has recorded 4,410 measles cases in the United States in 2026, including 451 hospitalizations, with cases rising by 330 in one week. Pennsylvania accounts for 1,222 cases across 42 counties, 225 hospitalizations and five confirmed deaths, while officials investigate a sixth. Federal investigators are assisting the state, which has expanded vaccination clinics. New York has declared an emergency near the outbreak. Falling kindergarten vaccination coverage, down to 92.4 percent in 2025–26, has left an estimated 280,000 children vulnerable.
